The Bank of Jamaica was established on May 1, 1961, under the Bank of Jamaica Act of 1960. Prior to its establishment, monetary affairs in Jamaica were managed by the Currency Board system, which was established in 1939. Richard Owen Byles was appointed Governor of Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) effective August 19, 2019.
