The Central Bank of The Bahamas was established on June 1, 1974, shortly after the country gained independence from Britain in 1973. Before its establishment, monetary authority in The Bahamas was vested in the Currency Board. Governor John Rolle was appointed in December 2016 for a five-year term and reappointed for another term in 2021.
